The United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference was held from July 1-22, 1944. 730 delegates from 44 nations convened in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire to craft a post-War monetary system. The agreements were ratified by 80 percent by December 27, 1945 and created the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
The first meeting of the Security Council of the United Nations was held on March 25, 1946 at the Hunter College Gymnasium in the Bronx (now Lehman College). The United Nations Headquarters buildings on the east side of Manhattan were not completed until 1952.
